Front Desk / Patient Coordinator – Entry Level
Grand Mission Dentistry | Richmond, TX
$15–$18/hour | No Dental Experience Necessary
We are not looking for someone who already knows dentistry.
We are looking for someone who WANTS to learn it.
You do not need dental experience. You do not need to know Open Dental. You do not need to understand dental insurance, treatment plans, dental terminology, or how a dental office operates.
We can teach you all of that.
What we cannot teach is the desire to learn, the willingness to work hard, the ability to think quickly, or the mindset of being part of a team.
We are looking for someone who:
- Learns quickly and actually enjoys learning new things.
- Can handle several things happening at once without shutting down.
- Pays attention and remembers what they are taught.
- Wants to become really good at what they do.
- Takes initiative instead of constantly waiting to be told what to do next.
- Shows up ready to work and wants to be here.
- Helps their teammates when they see someone struggling.
- Understands that sometimes the team needs you, even when something isn't technically “your job.”
- Accepts coaching without becoming defensive.
- Asks questions, takes notes, and applies what they learn.
- Wants more responsibility as they grow.
- Takes pride in doing things correctly.
- Wants a career with growth potential, not simply another job.
Most importantly: we want people who have each other's backs.
We work as a team.
If the phones are ringing, we answer them.
If someone is overwhelmed, we help.
If a patient needs something, we don't ignore it because it belongs to someone else's position.
If you finish your responsibilities and another team member needs help, you don't sit back and watch them struggle.
We succeed together.
That type of team environment isn't for everyone — but for the right person, it can be an incredible place to learn and grow.
There Is Real Opportunity to Grow Here
This is an entry-level position, but we do not view it as a dead-end receptionist position.
We want to develop people.
Someone who starts at the front desk and demonstrates reliability, initiative, good judgment, and a willingness to learn can grow into areas such as:
- Advanced scheduling
- Insurance
- Patient coordination
- Treatment coordination
- Case acceptance
- Financial coordination
- Leadership
- Dental practice administration
The more you learn, the more valuable you become — and we want people who are excited by that opportunity.
We would much rather hire someone with zero dental experience and the right mindset than someone with years of experience who doesn't want to learn, grow, or contribute to the team.
What Your First Goal Will Be
Your first job isn't to know everything.
Your first job is to learn.
We will teach you how our office operates, including:
- How to communicate with patients.
- How to answer and manage phone calls.
- How to schedule patients.
- How to use our dental software.
- How to document information correctly.
- How our doctors and hygienists are scheduled.
- How to collect payments.
- How dental insurance works.
- How to communicate with the clinical team.
- How to recognize what needs to happen next for a patient.
As you demonstrate that you can master responsibilities, we will continue teaching you more.
The Person Who Will Do Well Here
You don't have to be perfect.
You do need to be engaged.
You are probably someone who naturally thinks:
“What else can I learn?”
“What can I do to help?”
“How can I get better at this?”
Instead of:
“That's not my job.”
“Nobody told me to do that.”
“I didn't know.”
We expect mistakes while you're learning.
What matters is whether you learn from them.
We want someone who can be shown something, practice it, ask questions when necessary, and eventually become confident enough to handle it independently.
A Small Test Before You Apply
We receive many applications, and we are looking for people who pay attention to details and follow directions.
When you apply, begin your message with the words: “Ready to Grow.”
Then, in 2–3 sentences, tell us about something you had to learn quickly — at work, school, or in your personal life — and how you learned it.
There is no perfect answer.
We simply want to learn a little about how you learn.
Applications that do not include “Ready to Grow” may not be considered.
What You'll Eventually Be Responsible For
Once trained, your responsibilities will include things such as:
- Welcoming patients into the office.
- Answering incoming phone calls.
- Scheduling and confirming appointments.
- Helping patients with questions.
- Maintaining accurate patient information.
- Documenting patient communication.
- Collecting payments.
- Learning basic dental insurance processes.
- Communicating with doctors, hygienists, assistants, and other front-office team members.
- Helping maintain productive schedules.
- Following office systems and procedures.
- Helping patients move forward with needed care.
- Supporting your teammates throughout the day.
You are not expected to already know how to do these things. We will train you.
What Matters to Us
Reliability
Your team needs to know they can count on you.
Coachability
Feedback is part of learning. We want someone who wants to improve.
Speed
Dental offices move quickly. You need to be able to think, transition between tasks, and keep moving.
Attention to Detail
Little mistakes can become big problems. Details matter.
Initiative
Once you understand your role, we want you to recognize what needs attention without needing someone to constantly direct you.
Teamwork
No one succeeds alone here. We help one another.
Growth
We want someone who wants to know more six months from now than they know today.
Experience
Dental experience is NOT required.
In fact, we are completely comfortable hiring someone who has never worked in a dental office before.
Experience in customer service, restaurants, hospitality, retail, medical offices, reception, banking, salons, call centers, or other fast-paced environments can be helpful — but it is not required.
We are primarily looking for the right person and the right mindset.
Compensation
$15–$18 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
This is an entry-level opportunity with the ability to take on additional responsibilities and grow within the practice as your knowledge and capabilities develop.
Before You Apply, Ask Yourself:
Do I genuinely like learning?
Can I handle more than one thing happening at a time?
Do I take feedback well?
Do I notice when someone else needs help?
Am I willing to do something even when it isn't technically “my job”?
Do I want to become excellent at what I do?
Am I looking for somewhere I can grow, rather than somewhere I can simply collect a paycheck?
If you're reading those questions and thinking, “Yes — that's me,” we'd like to hear from you.
How to Apply
Remember to follow the application instructions included above.
We're not expecting you to already know dentistry.
We're looking for someone worth teaching.
